Philosophy:
Members of the Greater Vancouver Basketball
Association are encouraged to develop their skill set beyond that
which is honed through meeting education sessions and on-court
experience. This development can be accomplished by attending a
basketball officials’ development
camp.
The GVBOA supports all of its officials as they strive to improve.
Better individual officials reflect well on our association, and
we as a whole look better as a result. To encourage members to
attend, the GVBOA will provide financial assistance to its members
who attend development camps, subject to the following criteria:
General:
Attendance at a development camp does
not automatically mean a member will receive funds.
Each member must apply for funding, in writing, using the ‘GVBOA
Camp Reimbursement’ form.
The funding request MUST be received by November 1st for all claims
from the previous spring and summer.
Financial:
The GVBOA will limit the funding to
$1,000.00 per year, for the entire association membership. If twenty
members apply for funding, the maximum any one official will receive
is $50.00.
The maximum any one individual official will receive is the lesser
of their total of their camp expenses or $250.00.
Reimbursement for camp fees will be made in concert with the regular
pay dates of officials’ game fees. Generally this will occur
at the regular February monthly meeting or at the Annual General
Meeting in April.
Limitations:
To be eligible for camp funding,
a member must have officiated a minimum of twenty games during
the season immediately prior to the camp attended.
The member MUST work twenty games in the subsequent season to
receive payment. The date of the completion of that twentieth game
will determine which pay period the funding is received.
Members should not expect to repeatedly receive camp funding year
after year. The executive reserves the right to limit repeated
claims against this fund when others who have not claimed from
the fund could face reduced funding to assist in their development.
To eliminate confusion on this point, clarification should be sought
from the executive prior to attending a camp.
